What we've been up to.....

Since I haven't cleaned off my camera since November, you get a picture post. Some of these are from our Spring Break in Houston.



Then there's a cute little video of Chani with her new kitchen. Long ago, when Emery completed a week of being potty trained, he got a new bike. Clint told Chani the same thing. But, since Emery hardly ever rides the bike, we talked about another sort of prize. She loves the kitchen in Nursery at church, so we decided that might be a better direction. She's been "potty trained" for most of a year. However, she's never made it 7 days with no accidents. Until the week of spring break. We ordered the kitchen and it arrived today. It took me about 3 hours and 200 screws to put it together, but I did it myself and I think I did a pretty good job. Chani LOVES it and for weeks has been saying that she is getting "a big, big, HUGE kitchen." I got that on video, I hope you enjoy.

Spring Break

We've had a really fun spring break. Last weekend we went camping for one night, and although it was a bit cold during the night, the kids loved it. Emery kept saying, "This is the best camping ever." Chani didn't eat her breakfast, and I put the bowl in the fire. Several minutes later she came back to the table and asked who ate her food. Clint replied, "The fire did." She said, "Stupid fire." I'm just keeping it real.

On Wednesday we went to Houston and spent most of the day here. It was so fun. As soon as we saw the building Emery remembered going there a year ago. They had some fund displays and again the favorite spot was the FlowWorks which is an outdoor water exhibit that the kids can control the movement of a river, build water pipes to channel the flow of the water, and other water related things. By the time we left the display, Emery was SOAKED. It looked like he had climbed in and taken a bath in his clothes.

After the museum we checked into our awesome apartment, which we found at airbnb.com It was perfect for us because it was right downtown, a bedroom and a living room (so the kids could sleep while we were still awake). We will use the site again. We ate dinner at Niko Niko's, and it was delicious Greek food. It reminded me of my sweet friend Christy, who first fed me a gyro in college.

On Thursday we got up and went to Ikea for a bit. Got the kids a great easel that has a dry erase board on one side and chalk on the other. Then we went to The Lego Store. Emery is enthralled with Lego's. We get a catalog every month or so, and Emery calls it his wish book. He takes it to bed and pores over the pictures when he's supposed to be sleeping. Sometimes I even catch him with the lights on sometimes. Chani fell asleep in the car, so Clint and Emery went in alone. Clint said it was just like the wish book. He poured over each box and couldn't get enough of it. Then we continued on to Lake Jackson and toured the Sea Center which is a small aquarium with a touch tank and several glass aquarium tanks. It's associated with a seawater fish hatchery. It was very educational and free. Chani fell and got a huge sliver in her hand, so we also got to dig that out and fill out an accident report. We also went to the Brazosport Museum which was also free. It was filled with dinosaur bones, agates, lots of precious stones, a butterfly collection, and a HUGE Oriental ship carved from Jade. It was a whirlwind trip, but perfect for our little family.

Emery is reading!

We have a reader. Emery has been reading from The Book of Mormon at bedtime scripture study for quite a while now. This week we checked out some library books and he's read them all. We really like this book, which is part of a fun series. They are funny and only a few words on each page.

Our Librarian (Miss Karen, who we LOVE) told us about this group of books and they are cleaver and rhyme.

I will try to take a picture of him reading, but because he reads to me, it might take a while.
