A: (Crying) Yes he is. He is too real.
Emery: No he's not. He's just pretend.
A: But they made a movie about him.
Me: Not everyone in the movies is real. A lot of the time, the movies are just pretend.
Emery: Mom, I know a movie that's really real.
Me: What's that, Emery?
Emery: General Conference.

Happy Easter!

I was a failure. I didn't take any pictures of Chani in her Easter dress, and I never got Emery an Easter tie. I'm useless. But, when we returned home from Vegas, I stuffed eggs and filled Easter baskets and then the Easter bunny helped hide eggs. In the morning, Emery got up and went downstairs and then went back to bed, because he saw the baskets. Too funny!

The kids each got Peeps (gross), a Reese's Egg (Chani had hers gone before they started hunting eggs), some stickers, and tons of eggs filled with these delicious jelly beans. Emery got a hex bug (he's been begging for a while, and it has been a huge hit) and Chani got a cute new spring outfit.

We had a great time at church and then dinner with friends. It was an excellent Easter day. I'm so grateful for my Savior and the chance we get to celebrate his sacrifice and resurrection. Joy fills my heart when we sing the Easter hymns. What an amazing life experience I get to be a part of!

Las Vegas

Clint and I made a super fast 24 hour trip to Las Vegas last Friday/Saturday. Clint has been training for a 5K for a while now, and needed a race to gauge his progress and to determine what he needed to do next. He knew that the Las Vegas 5K would be fast. We left the kids with our friends (thanks Chase family) and drove to Denver to catch our plane. Love flying Frontier. The flight attendants are great and we even got to watch about 20 minutes of the Celtics game for free. We arrived in Las Vegas at about 5:30 PM. We got our rental car, ran to pick up Clint's race packet, and off to our airbnb accommodations. Eric was a fantastic host and his guestroom was perfect! We've not had a bad experience with AirBnB. Clint changed and went for a run, and then we grabbed some dinner at a local grocery store. Clint had a burrito and I had a salad and we shared chips and fresh salsa. We were up early and at the race by 7:15 or so. Clint warmed up and then the race started. It was a very fast 5K and the winning time was 14:30. Clint didn't do as well as he had hoped (20th place, not what he wanted for time), but it was a good evaluation of the training he has been doing. He has made some adjustments and is training should improve his times accordingly.

After finishing up with the race stuff, we went back to our room so Clint could shower and we checked out. Then we ran around town looking for kinder eggs (the only thing Chani wanted for Easter) but we never had any success. We also drove out to the Hoover Dam for a few minutes. Clint had never been there. We then stopped for mexican food at a dive in Henderson (it was delicious) and then back to drop off our rental car. We were at the airport in plenty of time, and made our flight without any trouble. We were home and the kids were tucked into their own beds by midnight.


I know Clint's eyes are closed, but that's the only picture we took of the two of us.

It was a whirlwind and not exactly what we expected, but we were glad to go. We had a nice time being alone together even if it was fast and short.

I should mention two things. The first is that since we've traveled twice in two months, our kids expect a gift when we get home. We rocked it this time, at least from Emery's point of view. He's been obsessed with the platypus lately. My nephew is serving a mission in Australia, and Emery already sent a letter asking Elder Stevenson to bring him a platypus. So, when we found Perry at The Disney Store (from Phineas and Ferb) we had to buy him. The funny thing is that Emery has only seen the show once and not at our house. So Perry has been going everywhere and Emery even made him a habitat (a huge cardboard box that he scribbled blue marker inside to look like water) for sleeping. He's sitting on the couch right now keeping me company while Emery is at preschool. Chani got a princess sun hat, which she is also thrilled with.


While we were shopping we found this. Isn't it funny??

Tonight at bedtime....

Emery climbed up onto his bed holding his Lego "Wishbook" (catalog). The pages are falling out because he browses it so often. Clint says, "Don't stay up too late reading that, ok, Emery?" And Emery responds, "I'm only going to look at it for a couple of hours, dad."

Chani says

"Dad, you're a genius because I love you."

Disclaimer: I know that no one else cares about my ultrasound pictures. I understand that, because I feel the same way about everyone else's. (Sorry everyone!) But, this is my blog and I don't scrapbook so they need to go somewhere. If you don't want to see them, feel free to skip this post. It won't hurt my feelings at all.

We had our ultrasound on Friday, April 8. The tech was great and the kids asked a million questions. They liked it for the first 5 minutes, and then they were done. But, since our appointment was at 8:00 AM (we had to be there at 7:45) I didn't want to have to find someone to watch them. They were pretty good.


The tech had the kids convinced that Bread was smiling in this one. Clint thinks Bread looks like Chani.

As for the gender, there's a 50% chance it's a girl, and a 50% chance it's a boy. You'll have to wait for the surprise announcement after Bread is born just like the rest of us. Names are also top secret....but we think they are picked....now it's just spelling and middle names.

Healthy Snacks and Dips

I taught my class today. It went pretty well, I think. I had lots of people attend (all the chairs were taken for the second and third classes) and everyone liked the recipes. I'm attempting to load my handout as a PDF. Let's see how smart I can be.

Oh the irony......

So for the first 14 weeks of this pregnancy I ate mostly carbs. The thing that I could eat without any trouble? Raman. I know, right? But seriously, it always tasted good and never made me sick.

Fast forward to today. Chani picks raman for lunch (keeping it real) so I make some up. I dish it up and taste a bit. Instant heartburn. I'm getting to that point. For me, it's the point where even water gives me heartburn. Daily zantac, here I come.

Happy news!!!!

This announcement made me cry this morning. We love Cheyenne, and although we're not too close to family, the major drawback was having to travel 3 hours (with traffic it takes that long) to get to the temple. Fort Collins is only about 45 miles from us. It's a good day.
