It's cold here. Last night when Clint came home it was -7 degrees. Shortly after he got home, the power went out. I am severely under prepared for emergencies. I had two candles that were nearly gone. We have a nice big Maglite, but the kids like to play with it so the batteries were nearly dead. The temperature dropped 15 degrees between when the power went off (9:20 PM) and when we went to bed (10:30 PM). Clint was worried we were going to freeze to death. I piled the blankets on everyone and we went to bed. The power came back on shortly before midnight.
This morning (Tuesday is a babysitting day) my friend called to tell me that while bringing the kids to my house, her truck died. She thought maybe the diesel gelled in the tank. She asked if I could come get her, which I did. When I left the house it was -14 degrees, with a windchill making it -41 degrees. When I got to her, the truck was COLD, and the little boys were nearly frozen. I delivered them home, and she didn't go to school. It's bitter out there today, so we're staying inside!
Things to gather for emergencies:
candles
new lighter
a few more flashlights
extra batteries
**Keep them where I can find them in the dark!

Ummmmmm.....BRRRRRR!!!
I was feeling rather chilly today when I ran over to Chloe's school, but that's nothing, apparently!
And I, too, am ill-prepared for an emergency. My flashlights are always missing/dead/etc.
Good thing you grew up in Idaho or this would be a real shock coming from Texas! Congrats by the way!
Go the the Dollar Store!! That's how I have prepared for all emergencies...the have great emergency candles and lighters, PLUS all weather gear like hats, scarves gloves and ponchos...you can even get some cheapie flashlights and batteries there! It's worth it when you only need them for emergencies and don't use them on a regular basis! Glad you didn't freeze to death!
